I can think of no better way to start the weekend than to be gifted a new track from Hugh. “Sense To You” is out today from the Cross-Atlantic three-piece comprised of vocalist and spoken word artist Joshua Idehen, guitarist Martin Kolarides and producer Andy Highmore. This second single release of 2019 features vocals from Canadian R&B duo Bonjay.
Idehen commented on the track, “Sometimes you just know. You go out, for a drink, with mates, not really looking, and you lock eyes with someone, and the words you share aren’t particularly clever, or funny, or deep, but everything clicks, and before you know it, she nods towards the exit and you’re saying goodbye to your friends.” This sexy smoothness drips all over this sultry track. The guest vocals of Alanna Stuart of Bonjay blends nicely with Idehen’s deep baritone. The collaboration was born out of a mutual admiration for one another’s work and when Bonjay traveled to London, the stars aligned and “Sense to You” came to fruition.
“Sense To You” is a sexy track that, at least for me, calls to mind those first moments when you meet a new person and in a sense, feels a bit nostalgic. It’s like the magic of those first times you go out to a club as an adult and the whole world feels as though it’s your oyster. There’s some mystery in the unknown and that feeling, the fluttering nervousness that is a potential new encounter is what this track really evokes. The layer of the sounds and the slow tempo force the listener to slow down as well, yet feels dreamy and not at all like it’s grounding you in the moment.
Hugh has more collaborations and releases planned for the remainder of 2019. But for now, follow them on instagram (@hughloveshugh) and listen at Spotify.
