I first discovered the New York City outfit, T-Rextasy, when I learned they’d be playing locally with two of my favorites, Leggy and GRLwood. Then to my delight, theirs became the first new album of 2019 that I listened to. Their crowd funded sophomore album, Prehysteria, was released on January 3, 2019.
The 10 track album is full of fun guitar riffs and the harmonies evoke a nostalgia for groups like The Ronettes and The Shangri-Las. The songs range a number of topics from teenage acne, to queer identity, to an adoration for vintage and Etsy. The music is fun and punchy with nods to the B-52’s and Talking Heads. The lyrics are full of puns, clever, and playful. While some songs to me appear perhaps not fully fleshed out, they are nevertheless fun to listen to.
Favorite track has to be the makeout/beverage inspired, “Coffee,” which has the fantastic chorus full of soaring frustration: “Grind me please/Grind my beans.”
You can support them like I did, on bandcamp.
